Résumé : Jit Salunke is the cofounder of RAAS (Responsive As A Service), a startup that aims to convert websites into mobile friendly ones. RAAS, which is totaly bootstrapped, is the third startup he launched during the last 2 years ! When you get the startup virus, it doesn’t matter whether you fail or not as long as it’s something worth doing, and you were happy doing it.

Pitch.

44% of the internet traffic comes from mobile devices and only 2% of all websites are actually mobile friendly or responsive. This results in loss of potential customers due to bad website experience on mobile devices. RAAS helps businesses, web agencies & designers to convert the websites into mobile friendly ones. So websites provide equally good experience across the mobile devices.

Genesis.

We started a web development business couple of months back and some of our initial clients wanted to have their websites mobile-friendly. After they launched new mobile-friendly websites, they saw a sudden spike in their conversions and increase in business. That was good indication for us to focus all of effort on providing a single offering – to make websites responsive. So we launched RAAS- Responsive As A Service.

Secret sauce.

Honestly there is no secret sauce or IP to what we are doing. Just one thing we are confident of is that there would be surge in demand for making websites responsive in 2014 and we are making sure that we grab that opportunity with both hands.

Rise.

Distribution would be key. We are focussing on partnering with as many as web agencies and designers who can offer our offering to their clients. Also word of mouth has been working pretty well for us.

Team.

Right now, we are team of 2 people, Jit & Mona. I (Jit) look after the business development and Mona looks after the technology. We are die-hard fans of remote work culture, so we work remotely and we plan to keep it that as we bring more people to the team.

Market.

Our primary consumers would be those whose businesses rely on Internet. Also we can also consider web-agencies and web designers as our target consumers because those would play key role in growth of RAAS.

Business model & funding.

It’s pay per website. We typically charge 500 USD to make websites responsive. Fortunately we are bootstrapped and profitable. And our model enables us to grow that way without taking any external funding.

Fails.

A lot, for like 4 years. We did 2 startups in 4 years but they didn’t work. We decided to take it a bit easy and start web development. And we landed up on the idea of RAAS. So, we are back to a startup and fortunately this is working.

Tomorrow.

Sale, sale & sale 🙂

What else ?

Our advice for entrepreneurs would be first look for PAYING CUSTOMERS who are willing to pay for what you will be offering. This is the only way you should start on your own.
